A 12 meter tall problem is raised at Carlsberg
Acclaimed artist John Kørner has created a remarkable artwork that will serve as a landmark for the upcoming art weekend Kopenhagen Contemporary from the 18-20 September. Det Store Problem (The Big Problem) is an approximately 12 meter tall red hot air balloon that will rise up in the square in front of the new art center at Ny Carlsberg Vej 68.
- Danish media, and rumors, suggest that contemporary art is inaccessible. Problematic even. The problem and its solution is a very creative process. Free art is unique and most people dealing with it, believe it to be refreshing for our society. So Copenhagen needs a big 'problem', says John Kørner.
Det Store Problem can be experienced from the 18-20 September in the square outside Kopenhagen Publishing's new premises at Ny Carlsberg Vej 68. As a landmark, the artwork will draw attention to Kopenhagen Contemporary and thereby the entire Danish art scene.
- With Kopenhagen Contemporary we invite everybody who are curious about art, to experience what is happening on the contemporary art scene in Copenhagen in 2009. Many of the participating galleries and exhibition spaces offer events beyond the ordinary, and we hope that even more people will start to appreciate the rapid development we have experienced in the last couple of years. Copenhagen is simply more visible on the international art map", says Torben Zenth, editor of Kopenhagen.dk.
The full program of Kopenhagen Contemporary can be viewed and downloaded at: www.kopenhagencontemporary.com
Kopenhagen Contemporary is arranged by Kopenhagen Publishing and Wonderful Copenhagen, in cooperation with Copenhagen's leading galleries, exhibition spaces and museums.
Det Store Problem is supported by The Danish Arts Foundation.
